The Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is the psychological acupressure technique I routinely use and most highly recommend to optimize your emotional health. Although it is still often overlooked, emotional health is absolutely essential to your physical health and healing - no matter how devoted you are to the proper diet and lifestyle, you will not achieve your body's ideal healing and preventative powers if emotional barriers stand in your way.
EFT is very easy to learn, and will help you:
- Remove Negative Emotions
- Reduce Food Cravings
- Reduce or Eliminate Pain
- Implement Positive Goals
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, based on the same energy meridians used in traditional acupuncture to treat physical and emotional ailments for over five thousand years, but without the invasiveness of needles. Instead, simple tapping with the fingertips is used to input kinetic energy onto specific meridians on the head and chest while you think about your specific problem - whether it is a traumatic event, an addiction, pain, etc. -- and voice positive affirmations.
This combination of tapping the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the "short-circuit" - the emotional block -- from your body's bioenergy system, thus restoring your mind and body's balance, which is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease.
Some people are initially wary of these principles that EFT is based on - the electromagnetic energy that flows through the body and regulates our health is only recently becoming recognized in the West. Others are initially taken aback by (and sometimes amused by) the EFT tapping and affirmation methodology, whose basics you will learn here.
Learning to Tap
The basic EFT sequence is pretty easy to learn . In person or on the phone you have the advantage of me personally helping you locate the tapping points, You should be able to pick up these points pretty fast. With a little practice, you will be performing each round in under a minute. Don't worry about being right or correct , as tapping the general area is sufficient.
Magic Fingers--You have them.
We will be tapping with our fingers. There are a number of acupuncture meridians on your fingertips, and when you tap with your fingertips you are also likely using not only the meridians you are tapping on, but also the ones on your fingers.
Traditional EFT has you tapping with the fingertips of your index finger and middle finger and with only one hand. Either hand works just as well. Most of the tapping points exist on either side of the body, so it doesn't matter which side you use, nor does it matter if you switch sides during the tapping. For example, you can tap under your right eye and, later in the tapping, under your left arm.
Your fingertips, work somewhat better than the pads of your fingers as they have more meridian points.
Tap with Moderate Pressure...Neverbeat yourself up.
You should tap solidly, but never so hard as to hurt or bruise yourself.
When you tap on the points outlined , you will tap each about 5-7 times. There is no rule but thats what I was taught and it works well.
Remove your Glasses and Jewelery Prior to Tapping
Glasses and watches can mechanically and electromagnetically interfere with EF, so I advise everyone to remove them prior to tapping. For quick sessions conducted upon yourself, this is not critical, as you can easily tap around them, but I think there is always a benefit to removing them when possible.
Using EFT in Public: Eliminating any Embarrassment
Many people are concerned about embarrassing themselves by using EFT in public, especially when implementing my revision of it, which really makes one stand out in a crowd.
Where do I Start?? Lets learn Karate!!!Because sometimes....and that really means, most of the time, our energy system is in a state of reversal we need
to go in and turn it around.The same way your flashlight will not work with dead batteries or with the batteries
in backwards, This is why we have to tune up our energy system and get it working better...
The karate point on the side of your hand is one of your switches....
The traditional EFT phrase uses the following setup while tapping on the side of your hand(the karate chop place)
while saying your affirmations... *An affirmation is emotional support or encouragement.*
"Even though I have this _____________,
I deeply and completely accept myself."
You can also substitute this as the second part of the phrase:
"I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
The blank above is filled in with your words for the issue you want to deal with .
This will give you an idea:
These are just a few ideas..but I learned early on to "TRY IT ON EVERYTHING"
"Even though I have this fear of flying, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have this headache, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have this anger towards my father,mother,brother ,friend etc, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have this horrible memory, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have this pain in my arm ( or where ever you have a pain), I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have these anger issues, I deeply and completely love and accept accept myself."
"Even though I have this craving for chocolate, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have this fear of spiders,( flies, height,etc) I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
"Even though I have this depression, I deeply and completely love and accept myself."
Sometimes it is hard for people to say they accept their self.. even hard to say they love their self....
The more positive and with emotion you can say this the better it will be but if you have to start of gently thats perfectly fine
say it even if you don't really believe it...
Some things are easy to get loud about and as your intensity goes down you will find yourself automatically getting more
emotional and louder...
LETS RATE THE PROBLEM
When you first decide what issue might be bothering you most it is helpful to put a scale number on it.
A scale of 1 to 10 works well 1 being no problem or no pain and 10 being very high. Sometimes people will
rate the number as 20 or 100 if it is bothering them a lot. If you are not sure of a number..just give it a guess..you are far more intuitive that you
even imagine. As we do the affirmation and then the tapping we will stop and breath and check to see if the number has gone down.
If it doesn't budge..you sometimes have to go back to the karate spot again and check the batteries. When you have had a problem
for a long time or you are in a lot of pain sometimes the energy takes more time to reverse...
"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."
Negative emotions sometimes happen when you are tuned in to certain thoughts or circumstances, which in turn, cause your energy system to disrupt.
.You are not afraid of a spider , for example,when you are cooking dinner and not tuned in to the thought of a spider being there..
By using EFT and TAPPING and tuning into you problem you can get results .
Putting It All Together--- First Round of Tapping
Now you will need to tap on each of the points described above while you are stating the positive affirmation. This will only take a few moments to do.
Using the problem you just did the affirmation on we will start TappingAs you tap the top of your head say ( this problem--) Example This fear of spiders
EB- I hate this fear of spiders
SE- They creep me out so bad
UE-I hate spiders
UN-I hate even mentioning them
Ch- This stupid spider fear
CB--I'm a million times bigger than them,whats up with this?
UM- but I hate them they scare me
TH-This spider fear...It is really a 10
EB-They are so nasty
SE I hate them and they scare me
UE- this spider fear
Ch-this horrible spider fear
CB-I've been afraid of spiders a long time.
UA -There is no way I can lose my fear of them
TH-This spider fear
EB- maybe there is a possibility I can be a little less afraid of them
SE--No I doubt that
UE - this spider fear
UN-maybe I can let this dear go
CH-Letting this spider fear go
CB- letting it go--letting this spider fear go
UA--this spider fear and what ever it means- letting it go
Stop and take a deep breath and think about that spider again and see if you still feel like a 10...
You will more that likely have a lower number---If you do then tap down the same way you did
before starting with top of head...When you are done--take a deep breath--think of the spider and see how you feel.
WE want to completly lose all spider fear--so you will keep tapping this sequence until your number is a 0.
some time the initial problem will clear up and a different aspect of it will replace it...
Now your fear of spiders might be fear of the spider bite..but thats where learning to tap
or having some one to guide and coach you will help you notice where you are.
Many time basic Tapping will clear up issues..and they will, trust me, stay gone!!! IT certainly improves the quality of life...
And you can work on all your problems..it is like clearing a field of trees..you keep chopping them down and pretty soon they are all gone.
There is much more to some underlying Emotional Issues and sometimes they call for more work,
you can almost bet it was from something that happened as an earlier age...Again this is where a coach, EFT practitioner can be very helpful.
BE persistent and also remember to drink plenty of water...sometimes when it seems you are making no headway it is because
your energy field needs to have a drink!!!!!!
